Students from a local High School spent the morning with us learning about Optometry. They were able to sit in on patient eye examinations, a contact lens fitting, and could observe the many steps it takes to complete a patients eyecare in the office. They learned that Optometry is more than fitting eyewear and contacts, but that it is an integral part of health care as we can detect many problems in the eye that have systemic ramifications.
These young students asked thoughtful questions about education requirements, colleges, different types of practices, running your own business, and many more. Only 16 and 17 years old, but already putting a lot of thought into a career! I hope they gained some insight into Optometry as a profession. It was a pleasure hosting them.
