What's in an eye exam?

An comprehensive eye exam can take up to one hour and will include external and internal health evalution (tests for glaucoma, cataract, visual field defects, macular degeneration, optic nerve disease, etc) refraction for eyeglasses, binocular vision assesment and consultation.  More in-depth testing will be performed when required.

The comprehensive exam may require that your eyes be dilated.  On average, your pupils will be large for about four hours.  By the completion of the exam, you should be able to drive and your reading will be blurry for about an hour.  However, if you are not comfortable to drive, please arrange for someone to drive you home.

Following your examination, the doctor will explain the results and answer any questions you may have.  We will also make any recommendations for future eye care.

As we get older, our vision is likely to change, even in the absence of any prior problems.  An annual eye exam in recommended to monitor changes, provide optimal visual acuity, and allow early detection of vision threatening disorders.
